Carbon Accounting for Waste Management

Waste Management is recognized as having a negative impact on climate change, principally through landfill emissions. However this is only half the story, more resource efficient approaches to managing out waste, greater recycling/reuse and more effective waste management treatment through energy recovery can make a positive contribution to carbon emissions. Through Zero Waste policies framed around a carbon metric, Scotland can begin to understand that better resource management can make a major contribution to helping Scotland meet its reduction targets.

In an economy where cap and trade, or simple carbon taxation measures are applied, this session explores how the waste management sector can be brought into Scotland’s carbon reduction strategies.

Presenters include Kimberley Pratt of Zero Waste Scotland speaking on the Carbon metric approach to recycling, and Dr Charles Russell and Sheila Scott on giving carbon credit for waste management.

Due to high demand this event is now fully booked.
