Low carbon communities workshop set for February

Dr. Keith Baker will be facilitating ICARB’s final workshop of its 2012-13 series, we can announce today.

The workshop ‘Accounting for low carbon communities’, will take place on 6 February 2013, and we are again grateful to the Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Innovation for hosting the event are their centre on South College Street, Edinburgh.

The focus of the event will be about striking the right balance between accuracy and capacity when accounting for carbon in community projects: how best can we design policies and programmes to support community carbon reduction projects?

Three key issues for carbon accounting for community projects, identified through ICARB’s work, will be introduced with short presentations from guest speakers:

  • Derek Robertson, Chief Executive, Keep Scotland Beautiful. ‘What information do we need from community carbon accounting?’
  • Dr Suzy Goodsir, Greener Kirkcaldy. ‘Evidence from a successful Climate Challenge Fund project.’
  • Prof Bill Slee, James Hutton Institute. ‘Opportunities and barriers to better community carbon accounting.’

Participants are also encouraged to bring their own issues and examples for discussion.

The event will be informed by a pre-workshop questionnaire contributed to by sectoral stakeholders, and outputs of the day will feed into the forthcoming 5th International Conference on Carbon Accounting.

Attendance is free but participants must register online at this link where you can also contribute to our survey.

ICARB’s forthcoming Tourism workshop will take place on the same day (details to be announced), and refreshments will be provided for those attending both workshops.
